VEX THEATRE COMPANY PARTICIPATES IN NEW THEATRE FESTIVAL IN ELGIN!

Elgin, IL - Vex Theatre Company announces their participation in a brand new theatre festival in Elgin, IL. "Walkabout: Theater On Your Feet" is sponsored by the Elgin Arts Commission and runs Saturdays, August 16, 23 and 30 at 1 p.m. The starting location is the Elgin Art Showcase at 164 Division Street, 8th Floor, Elgin, IL. Participants will be guided to several locations in downtown Elgin where local theatre companies will perform short theatrical works. The theater walk ends at the "Alley of Art" where local artists will create, display and sell their art.

Vex Theatre will be performing "Netherlands," a one-act play by Don Nigro, as their contribution to Walkabout. In the show, a hallucinating Vincent Van Gogh discusses love, loss, body parts, and the power of art with a strange Dutch girl. "For a short one-act play, this script packs a punch," says producer, Cathleen Ann, "The playwright offers a wildly creative interpretation of what Van Gogh's last days might have been like. This play is very funny and odd, but also oddly touching.”

The two actors in it face a big acting challenge and they are working hard to meet it. Adam Krause plays Van Gogh and Debbi Dennison plays the mysterious “Dutch Girl” he meets in the park…a woman who may be a hallucination or a fellow mental patient. It’s for the audience to decide. The director, Rich Geiger, thinks this play was a wonderful choice for this event, as Walkabout combines the performing arts and the visual arts. And he adds, “Acting can be just as much of an art as painting as it creates an image that leaves an impression in the mind of the viewer.”

Walkabout: Theater On Your Feet runs Saturdays August 16, 23 and 30 at 1 p.m. (tours every 15 minutes until 2 p.m.). Admission is $12.
